Follow the White Rabbit
Follow the White Rabbit
with Heike Buchfelder / MK Kaehne / Gisbert Pöppler / KRH Sonderborg / Walter Stöhrer
Exhibition Tour: Sunday, September 13, 2 pm
The exhibition Follow the White Rabbit playfully brings together historical works of postwar abstraction with contemporary collectible design and installation-based works. At its core is the dialogue between the gestural painting of the Informel movement and objects that transcend functional boundaries.
While K. R. H. Sonderborg’s dynamic structures and Walter Stöhrer’s emotional approach break with convention, the design works seek a connection to sculptural space. Gisbert Pöppler’s works, have a graphic quality, that straddles the line between drawing and sculpture. Heike Buchfelder transforms functional materials into organic, space-filling objects.
MK Kaehne plays a key role: drawing on painting, he explores the utility and limitations of art and design through architectural installations and the inversion of objects. This encounter deliberately breaks with the distinction between fine art and applied art.
The works function both as familiar everyday objects and as autonomous aesthetic statements. Drawing on a motif from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, the title stands for the courage to embrace the surreal and to break with established patterns of thought. The exhibition invites visitors to leave rigid categories behind and explore unexpected paths.
