Ricarda Hoop and Andrea van Reimersdahl show two different paths into abstraction in their pictorial worlds and refer in terms of content to textile cultural artefacts that are deeply rooted in cultural history and often have symbolic or spiritual significance. Drawings refer to and are reminiscent of tapestries. Painting and screen printing illuminate the cloth as a textile pictorial space. In both cases, the representational is driven into abstraction: transformed by drawing, boundaries are shifted or translated into a broad palette of colour tones.
