Have you met... die raum

There is a certain exhibition space in the middle of a jungle ruled by proud stroller-pushing parents and compulsive coffee drinkers that really worth a visit to the heart of Prenzlauer Berg.

die raum is a 5 m2 exhibition space in the multifunctional house in Oderberger Straße 56 designed by BARarchitekten.

Have you met...Luisa Catucci

The story behind origins of the Cell63 art gallery is unique. Luisa Catucci worked in Italy as an illustrator and graphic designer before moving to Berlin seven years ago (when Berlin wasn’t as popular as it is today). She wanted to have an atelier for herself with a showroom so she could display her own work. Her friends were impressed with the space and asked to show there as well. Luisa had involuntarily become a curator and gallery director, and she realized that she really liked organizing shows and that is how Cell 63 came about. The project has been in its current location for 2.5 years. Recently Luisa has started bringing Cell 63 to art fairs including the Kunstsalon Berlin, Art Verona in Northern Italy, and the Blooom fair in Cologne.

Have you met... Stedefreund

On the occasion of one of the most exciting re-openings of this season, I met director Anne Fäser and artist Kerstin Gottschalk from the collective that comprises the artist-run space Stedefreund.

Have you met...Christiane Grüß

Christiane Grüß, born in Freiberg, studied theater and economics and worked as a nurse before founding 7hours. While working in the pathological museum in Berlin in the late 80s the relation of the display of anatomical specimens to art became clear, both were focused on form and questioning. She started organizing exhibitions in the museum to spotlight the collection and the importance of thinking about the self and the body. There were, however limitations with working in this scientific setting, so Christiane decided to move into the center of the art field, to NYC, where the first permutation of 7hours took place.

Have you met... Chris Heenan and Christopher Williams

Today we are having a music interlude in this section. This time I would like to introduce you to Chris Heenan and Christopher Williams, the curators behind Certain Sundays.

Have you met... Heiko Pfreundt

Just a few days earlier than the Venice Biennale, Kreuzberg Pavillon first opened its doors in Liegnitzerstr., where Heiko's own atelier was initially meant to find a place. After one month and having realized how many people were observing from outside, he decided to open the space to the public.

Have you met...Diego Castro and Eva May

Diego Castro and Eva May are preparing for the upcoming exhibition of Franziska Wildt’s work in their space Gitte Bohr: Galerie für Kunst und politisches Denken opening this Thursday, the 10th of November at 7pm. They took some time out of their busy schedules to answer some questions about their space and pose for a photo with a sculpture by Wildt, providing us with a sneak peek of their next show.

Have you met... Suvi Lehtinen

She landed in Berlin almost three years ago. Before starting the gallery under her name in Mitte, she would trace a long academic path from Finland via London and New York. Suvi first got her BA in Art History and then her Masters degree in Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths College before moving to New York, where she would spend four and a half years keeping herself occupied with another masters in International Relations and working at the Center for Humanities at the City University of New York.
