Tips 23.05 - 05.06

Alright, party's over – time to fly back from the heights of the sparkly (albeit underwhelming) artworld Olympics, and give some love to your local project space. Spree might not have the charm of the Venetian canals, but a true romantic will cheer to life and art even with a Sterni on the shady side of the Ufer.

THURSDAY 25.05

19.00 Eric Winkler - „Robben & Winkler“ @ Galerie im Turm

WHY: For the exhibition "Robben & Winkler" the Berlin artist Eric Winkler creates a collection of clothing pieces as a tribute to Berlin's long-standing car rental company Robben & Wientjes. „Robben & Winkler“ is a haute couture and pret-à-porter; it combines Berlin's own styles in fringes, cuts, labels and accessories. Eric Winkler gives his own biographical and romantic connection to Robben & Wientjes in the clothing, as well as the remarkable resistance of the popular car rental.

WHY: The exhibition „SEEDS (Planted By Other Women Inside My Head)“ is an artistic-curatorial experiment by Larisa Cruțeanu. The author alternates between the caring, channeling and contextualising other artists’ work on one side, and creating new works in resonance with her research and curatorial activity on the other side. The exhibition is composed of works realised as a reply to various conversations and personal or work-related experiences with the artists Xandra Popescu, Alina Popa, Sonja Hornung, and Karolina Bielawska.

WHY: In her solo show in Das Gift, Madelen Isa will present a film installation titled „Working Class Heroes: three concepts of relativity". WEDNESDAY 31.05

18.00 Amelie Grözinger & Alex Lebus – „Noble Surface“ @ Circle1

WHY: In their exhibition titled „Noble Surface“, the Berlin-based artists Amelie Grözinger and Alex Lebus question “reality” which cannot be defined as such and manifests itself in possibilities of different realities. The title of the exhibition suggests industrial character, efficiency, luster, and perfection, which is confirmed with minimalist and cool mirror works by Lebus, and Grözinger's folding works made of silver paper. In this show the artists are prepared for disagreement and for the deconstruction of the normal.

19.00 Transactions – About the value of artistic labour @ Haus am Lützowplatz

WHY: With a wide-ranging accompanying program, the exhibition offers a platform for discourse, aimed at illuminating and challenging various aspects of the relationship between artistic practices and the current financial system. Haus am Lützowplatz shows works that reflect, uncover, or even embody the underlying structures of capitalist exchange. The artworks  will not offer any answers, but rather challenge and accelerate thought processes. Potential contradictions arising from the arrangement and juxtaposition of the works are anticipated.

THURSDAY 01.06

17.00 Titus Schade @ Galerie EIGEN + ART

WHY: The works of Titus Schade examine the nature of the picture and the pictorial space. In sceneries that suggest stage settings, Schade unfolds places that seem to be both models and theatrical situations, imagining a wide spectrum of very different architectures and props that invite the beholder looking at his canvases to explore a private universe.

Galerie EIGEN + ART / Auguststr. 26, 10117 Berlin, U Rosenthaler Platz / open through 08.07 / more info
